Go Sen's Go! The playoffs await!

On a shelf in my home there is a shelf. It is the second most cherished shelf in my house (the first dedicated to icons and photo's of faith and family) for it is crowded with memorabilia from the Ottawa Senators. It is chock full of everything from clocks to pucks, each emblazoned with the Sen's logo. I think of it as a small Sen's shrine - a symbol of hope that these hero's of hockey might prevail in the carrying that logo once again to the penultimate prize of this greatest of sports.

Last year, after 11 straight years of participation in post-season action, they failed to reach these Stanley Cup tournament. It made for a long and dismal summer (as if last summer needed help to be considered dismal as virtually every day brought cold and rain instead of the usual sun and heat) watching other teams compete for the Cup without the likes of Spezza, Heatley and Alfreddson.

Yet last night they nailed down there invitation to the post-season with a dramatic come from behind victory over the Carolina Hurricanes. Now, all that is left to do this season is to ensure that everyone is kept healthy in the final few games of the season and to determine which team they must vanquish in the first round of the playoff's.

Hope springs eternal with the start of every play-off season (unless your a Toronto Maple Leaf fan) as the long battle for the Stanley Cup gets under way. So, flush with faith in Church this Easter weekend... the Sen's have given me one more reason to celebrate this weekend. Just as the celebration of the Triduum is a foretaste of that great Easter to come at the end of time, may last nights victory by the Senators be a harbinger of play-off success which will bring the Stanley Cup to Ottawa.

Go Sen's Go!!

  1. "...it is crowded with memorabilia from the Ottawa Senators."

    Aw...my deepest sympathy, Tim! LOL!

But I know how you feel -- my guys are the Canucks, the best forty-minute team in the league! Now, if only we could get them to show up for the other twenty minutes...

  2. And now, Lady Janus, a bright sense of humour surfaces.

However, at least you in BC have a 40 minute hockey team, and Father Tim, has a team that has made the playoffs almost consistently.

For those of us in Southern Ontario, we must support our nearly local Maple Loafs, or give our due to the team down the road and over the bridge from the Motor City, where they have not only made the playoffs consistently over the recent years, but have been able to take home Lord Stanley's mug.

To support our Canadian teams, or back a winner. Such a quandary.

  3. Ah, MBrandon...when it comes to my hockey team, if I don't laugh about it, I'll spend all my time crying... ;D

Vancouverites do not have crying towels -- we have webbed eyelashes.

But I love my team. At least they try. In my book, the only ones who lose are the ones who surrender.
