Senators have themselves a winner in Paul MacLean - The Globe and Mail

Like every other Canadian, I'll be attentively watching tonight's hockey game, sending every good thought I can in helping to cheer Vancouver in bringing the Stanley Cup where it belongs, north of the 49th parallel. My beloved Ottawa Senators are expected to make news themselves tomorrow when they announce Paul MacLean as their new head coach. The Globe and Mail believes that he's a 'winning' choice. I hope they are right. Tonight, we're all Canucks. Next season though, all bets are off!

Go Sen's Go! The playoffs await!

On a shelf in my home there is a shelf. It is the second most cherished shelf in my house (the first dedicated to icons and photo's of faith and family) for it is crowded with memorabilia from the Ottawa Senators. It is chock full of everything from clocks to pucks, each emblazoned with the Sen's logo. I think of it as a small Sen's shrine - a symbol of hope that these hero's of hockey might prevail in the carrying that logo once again to the penultimate prize of this greatest of sports. Last year, after 11 straight years of participation in post-season action, they failed to reach these Stanley Cup tournament. It made for a long and dismal summer (as if last summer needed help to be considered dismal as virtually every day brought cold and rain instead of the usual sun and heat) watching other teams compete for the Cup without the likes of Spezza, Heatley and Alfreddson.
