A happy seasonal pastime: Remembering old friends now gone but never forgotten. Here's one of the best: Fr. Richard John Neuhaus

Each Christmas sets me ruminating through memories of friends and family I've loved and lost. Here's a video about my mentor and friend Fr. Richard John Neuhaus. It stands as a singular honour that he asked me to participate in this project when its producer requested a Canadian friend to represent him in this CBC documentary piece. I miss him a great deal but am eager to great him again in the great convivium of the Parousia to come!

OMG....'Frosty the Snowman' arrested

'Frosty the Snowman' arrested at Maryland parade - CBC News

YEAH! Hockey season begins anew today! Here's a prognostication from a CBC reporter.

Only good thing from a Sen's perspective in these predictions? We finish out of the play-offs but ahead of the Leafs! That's as good as the Cup for we Ottawa fans who will probably suffer through a long and difficult season if the pundits are all correct! Go Sen's Go! CTV, Global, National Post... virtually every other report states that the crowd was between 10,000 and 15,000. Yet once again these numbers are massively under-reported by the CBC. I find it amazing that 15-20 people gathering in front of a Church to protest gets substantial coverage on the public airwaves but something that ranks among the largest turnout each year on the Hill is misreported with numbers scaled back by a factor of 50-75%! It's not paranoia if the facts back you up! Again the government broadcaster has manipulated the truth to minimize a growing and youthful challenge to government policy. We used to scream long and loud when state media distorts the truth in other countries. (Remember Pravda?) Why are these same voices that were demanding truth in journalism not demanding a change in the CBC's report to reflect the true size of the demonstration. Please take a moment and add your name to the online petition . Socon or Bust » Blog Archive » Sign the Pet...

An except from 1972 CBC series 'Man Alive' that deals with the question of when a 'fetus' becomes a 'person'

At what point is a baby considered to be a living human, and not a fetus? What is the "viability" age, meaning the point when an infant can survive outside the womb? And what are the philosophical and moral implications of the answers to these questions? In this excerpt from a 1972 episode of Man Alive , Canadian pediatric specialist Robert Usher ponders these issues, illustrating his points by showing a fragile premature two-pound baby who was born at 26 weeks gestation.  I wish to add that my brothers Michael and James were each just over 1.2 lbs each when they were born as identical twins at 23 weeks of gestation. Even though Mike is 18 months older than I am, we arrived home from hospital a few scant months apart as he faced many major health crises, crises that his twin did not survive and which kept Mike in hospital for the first year of his life.  I also point out that at the time, there were dire predictions about his long term capacities. My parents were to...

CBC waging 'faith-war,' according to the Conservatives

Here's an article taken from the Globe and Mail website , written by Jane Taber  in which she reports that the Conservative Party has taken offense at what it calls a 'faith-war' being waged by the CBC. Notwithstanding the political implications of a political party complaining about the media (as if that's never happened before!), Taber does a decent job of summarizing the 'evidence' that the CBC is indeed antithetical to the voices of faith in the public square.

Working in "virtual" fields to produce a harvest of faith

While participating in the threads of the CBC website news story about the appointment of Bishop Brian Dunn as Bishop of Antigonish, a gentleman who identified himself by the nom des plume, "nonreligious" posted the following to me. To Fr. Moyle To expand my previous post, my repeated abuse as an altar boy occured in 1973 on northern Vancouver Island. I remember the person wanting me to keep quiet and telling me God would heal all wounds. I dared not tell my parents, mostly out of fear and confusion, and because I felt they would not believe me. I had been taught that God was always right. I was nine at the time. For those who have not walked in our shoes, which is most of you, trust me when I say that you lose all grasp of reality and have it replaced by something that is foreign. It's like you initially know it's not right, but after time it starts to feel that way. And you learn to deal with it any way you can under the circumstances. It never mattered to me t...
