The Probability of You Existing at All is Almost NON-Existent. A Brief Reflection on the Contingency of our Being and the Glory of God, Based on a Recent Math Article. | Archdiocese of Washington

I've been using this same argument with every couple that brings a child to the Church for baptism. When we consider that the statistical odds of our coming to exist are far less than winning the Lotto 6/49, the birth of a child suddenly is seen in a different light... a prize of great value! I hope that if parents can keep that thought in their minds as they raise a child that they might understand just what a treasure is entrusted to them to love and care for. Sexual Abuse in Social Context: Catholic League

Here is a web address that will take you to an article which statistically examines the question of clergy sexual abuse of children. It is always good to have some of these facts at hand in answering the questions that are posed to believers in the wake of various scandals. One point to remember: even one pedophile in our midst as deacon/priest/bishop is one too many. However it is relevant to have this information to at least counter those who claim that the clergy is dominated by such offenders. http://www.catholicleague.org/research/abuse_in_social_context.htm
