Sexual Abuse in Social Context: Catholic League

Here is a web address that will take you to an article which statistically examines the question of clergy sexual abuse of children. It is always good to have some of these facts at hand in answering the questions that are posed to believers in the wake of various scandals.

One point to remember: even one pedophile in our midst as deacon/priest/bishop is one too many. However it is relevant to have this information to at least counter those who claim that the clergy is dominated by such offenders.

  1. I didn't go to the website but I know that over 90% of sexual abuse by priests is homosexual and not pediphile as the media likes to tell us. The media loves to blame sexual abuse on children above puberty age as pediphile to protect the homosexual image.

  2. Ruralrite: As much as I agree with your comment (another great example of how modern political correctness effects how the media et al in the attempt to frame societal debates), it is important to remember that there are cases of heterosexual abuse as well. Rather than framing the argument in terms of homosexuality, why not simply deal with it in terms of infidelity to one's vows before God. Just as effective - and it does not leave us open to that favorite canard of the left leaning media.

Comment offered by the theists in the public square is often depicted as being 'malicious' or 'venomous' and intended to enslave the 'feeble minded and weak' by those who post.
