Much of what he says makes some sense. The Catholic Church is always in need of reform... it's a bit of a truism. However the notion that the Catholic Church can and ought to conform with contemporary progress, liberalism, and civilization is a bit suspect. Indeed, the Church is called to stand in opposition to the culture, not slavishly following it.
ReplyDeleteLet us not forget whose Church it is. It might be more useful to remake the Church in his image instead of our own.
Moreover, many of the reforms the bishop proposes have already been adopted in other churches. It might be useful to look at them.
