Well, we do have the words of Jesus to the effect that the Catholic Church will not be overcome. The current downward slide appears to be a result of less than inspired preaching, clerical sex-abuse, thieving Clergy, and some members in the Clergy who should never have been ordained. In almost every Diocese in North America there are many homosexual Priests, and several Bishops.
