"But know this about the 2016-17 Senators: They played with the heart of a champion, which eventually will be consolation enough." " Heart of a champion '? Amen to that brother. Amen to that indeed. Thank you Ottawa Senators of the excitement you brought to we water-logged denizens of the Ottawa Valley. You were the best thing to come around for a long, long time. IF this story is an accurate portrayal of the facts as to what was said and is reported in its proper context, then it stands as proof of at least one of two things: a) that the protocols and empathetic statements of Vatican leaders is NOT making itself felt lower down in its bureaucracy or b) that the Peter Principle was right all along and people do indeed rise within an organisation to the level of their incompetence. This 'envoy' has most assuredly hit his! Where do these idiots come from indeed? Read it for yourself and come to your own decision. But if you love the Church, be prepared to ' read 'em and weep '. If the following is what passes to justify a blasphemy charge under a criminal code, then the prophet Job was have had a rough time getting into heaven. When asked in a TV interview what he would say if he encountered God 'face to face' as it were, Stephen Fry replied: "How dare you create a world in which there is such misery that is not our fault? But while we're on the subject of civil responsibility in religious matters, what is a supposedly 1st world country like Ireland doing having such a charge as 'blasphemy' on the books to begin with? I hardly think that God requires the protection of the criminal law of a nation to protect his honour or privilege. Since if he exists (as I do believe that he does,) h
Here's a little tidbit I stumbled across today that might be of interest to others. It's a credal type expression of the minimums required to be considered an 'ontological', 'believing' and/or 'practicing' Christian. It actually seems pretty close to the mark imho. Anyway, it goes like this: Bare minimum to be an *ontological* Christian: Baptism Bare minimum to be a *believing* Christian: Belief in the Trinity: Three Persons in One God--Father, Son, Holy Spirit. (The Son became Incarnate--Jesus Christ.) Bare minimum to be a *practicing* Christian: Be in a state of grace, i.e., not committing mortal sin. Think you'd qualify under these conditions?
