Well, it's been a hell of a ride, laying rubber all over the road for the past decade. But it's time to call it a day and park the Rogue in the garage. Effective today, I am shutting down my blog to focus my attention on other endeavours. My thanks to the more than 2.7 million people who regularly joined me on these sojourns through news stories over the years that dealt with the places with issues of religion and faith intersecting with public affairs. I don't have a problem with the fact that Micheal Voris is all kinds of crazy.
ReplyDeleteWhat bothers me is how the entire "traditional, orthodox" Catholic community not only tolerated his internet rantings but embraced them, until told by the church that they should regard him as a kook. The flip side is that up until that point people who voiced concerns about Voris were often accused of being liberal cranks.
What does that say about the level of personal, intellectual conscience among a faction that almost unanimously regard only their own small group as the "real" Catholics and the rest of us as a heterodox threat or at best fellow travelers of such.
Voris regularly rails against abortion, euthanasia, women priest movements, homosexual marriage, birth control, moral relativism, fornication, adultery, attacks on our religious freedom, secular hedonism in Catholic institutions, reiki, enneagrams and all manner of new age quackery. He often blathers on about our need for the eucharist, the real presence, confession, prayer and catechesis. Really kooky stuff and kooky stuff you don't often hear mentioned in homilies or in polite Catholic circles. Sounds like he's been reading too many Papal Encyclicals. Hasn't he got the memo that official church teaching is kooky in Liberal land?
