You may want to looked at "Fifteen Dogs" by Andre Alexis, a Giller Award winner about dogs, gods (Apollo, Hermes, Zeus) and a commentary on the human condition . Set in Toronto, it ends just steps from my home. And it has dog poetry in it.
Michael: Thanks for the recommendation. I've just purchased it for my Kindle (had to buy it off the US site since it's not available as an ebook in Canada - weird eh?). I'll add it to my list of winter reading books.
Parts of it are quite sad (for a person who like dogs as I know you are) but by the author getting into the minds of dogs it is an interesting commentary on the human condition. I finished reading it Sunday night in front of a blazing fire on the first really cold night of the year with our new rescue dog on my lap wondering if this is how this dog thinks.
