To Puff or Not to Puff | Daily News | NCRegister.com

Here's an interesting application of that old teaching that says just because something is legal doesn't necessarily mean that it's moral. I've battled a (so far losing) battle against tobacco down through the years. At one point I actually succeeded for more than 15 years before I fell off the wagon, and have bounced off and on ever since. The mornings spent coughing up half a lung every morning sadly demonstrates the long term detrimental effects of tar and smoke on my health. I doubt that marijuana smoke is any less damaging than tobacco - and will carry the same significant long term health consequences for smokers.

Given that we are obliged to respect our bodies as a moral obligation, pot smoking would be as immoral as smoking cigarettes.

I have been free of smoking for 28 years now. One day, knowing my 3-large packs a day were killing me, I prayed as follows.
Dear God, I know this stuff is killing me. I can only quit with Your help. Please Help me! In your Son's Holly Name I ask this.
I carried a pack of cigs. and lighter, in my pocket for around 4 weeks before I threw them away.
I knew that the nearness of them was not how I would start smoking again: It would only be when I ignored the Grace of God.
Never did puff one again, by the Grace of God.
If you ask, it will be given unto you. If you squander it, then it is your lack of faith that is your problem.
