The pope can't kick Kung out of the Church because he reflects the beliefs of the majority of German and Austrian Catholics. He can't let the SSPX back in because they affront the beliefs of most of those same people.

    It's what's commonly called a "pickle".

  2. To be a Sedevacantist you need to affirm that the papacy has been invalid since Paul VI, like the SSPX claims. By opposing the current pope's attempt to let the SSPX back into the church, Fr. Kung is being called a Sedevacantist. Isn't the wronge person being called a Sedevacantist?

  3. Rationalist: I think that's the argument the article is making: that B16 is the sedevacantist in as much as he is illegitimate in the eyes of Kung.

All good things must come to an end

Well, it's been a hell of a ride, laying rubber all over the road for the past decade. But it's time to call it a day and park the Rogue in the garage. Effective today, I am shutting down my blog to focus my attention on other endeavours. My thanks to the more than 2.7 million people who regularly joined me on these sojourns through news stories over the years that dealt with the places with issues of religion and faith intersecting with public affairs. May God bless you with a continuing desire to learn about and help disseminate the issues of faith throughout the public square. Happy trails in your continuing travels! Fr. Tim Moyle, p.p.
