  1. it seems very strange to use the words honor and killing 1's child in the same sentence.someone failed to teach him that a child is a gift from God and NOT his possession...he is living his life as he wants too and his children have the same God given right. It is not always easy to love the simmer and hate the sin...this is a family that needs our love and understanding and perhaps their time in jail will enlighten them about loving and respecting their fellow human beings...regardless of gender

Mary, the term, "gift from God," only applies to your culture. It does not apply to his. You really need to understand that fact before you go trying to apply your logic to his world, because in his world, children are, indeed, possessions, as are wives.

What needs to happen is enforcement of the law, and equal application of such enforcement. In this part of the world, we do not recognise the concept of revenge killing for being embarrassed, and the message must be that one may follow one's own culture right up to the point where it breaches the law, and then one must follow the law.

    Lady Janus,

"Mary, the term, "gift from God," only applies to your culture. It does not apply to his."

I suspect you are correct on that point. But I am not sure that law enforcement will solve the problem. There was some of kind of expert speaking to this problem on the CBC yesterday and she made a lot of sense. The problem is complex and seems difficult to solve. These killings are fairly rare even though they may be on the increase. The expert said part of the solution is education. Unfortunately, the kind of people that commit these acts are not part of mainstream society and may feel culturally isolated even from their own comunity. It is easy to see how resentment might build while they blame the influence of the western culture on their daughter. So they develop a troubling mindset that leads to these kind of crimes.

Good will to all men? Not from the grumpy atheists! (Thank God not all atheists are grumpy but there sure seems to be a lot of them)

Why is it that so many in the atheist community cannot bring  themselves to get past their anger whenever they engage in discussions? The language of many of their contributions in public debate is laced with invective and dripping with sarcasm and bile. There are exceptions of course, but they tend to fall more into the category of being the 'exception that proves the rule' when compared to the hostility of many of today's atheist posters. Comment offered by the theists in the public square is often depicted as being 'malicious' or 'venomous' and intended to enslave the 'feeble minded and weak' by those who post. Nothing could be further from the truth. Venom is something that is oriented to death. Christians are oriented in a 180 degree different direction. We speak not to the culture of death  that grips our world but rather for the culture of life and light which ends with the gift of eternal life. For example, the Catholic Church in its hum...
