Russian rights activist Yelena Bonner dead at 88 - CTV News

Yelena Bonner was the 1980's version of Ghandi. Together with her husband Andrei Sakharov, they offered a peaceful and powerful countersign to the oppression inflicted upon the Russian people by the Communist government of the day.

I don't know if she was a 'believer' or not, but I trust that she is now receiving her eternal reward for all the good she did in this life. We should all hope to give as powerful a witness to the rights of the individual as she and her husband offered in the face of great retribution. Her courage should inspire us all.

All good things must come to an end

Well, it's been a hell of a ride, laying rubber all over the road for the past decade. But it's time to call it a day and park the Rogue in the garage. Effective today, I am shutting down my blog to focus my attention on other endeavours. My thanks to the more than 2.7 million people who regularly joined me on these sojourns through news stories over the years that dealt with the places with issues of religion and faith intersecting with public affairs. May God bless you with a continuing desire to learn about and help disseminate the issues of faith throughout the public square. Happy trails in your continuing travels! Fr. Tim Moyle, p.p.
