  1. Shades of the ontological argument. The author of this piece is doing one worse and trying to argue from the semantics of the English language that Prof. Dawkins has inadvertently left open the door to the existence of God. The assertion that expressing gratitude requires gratitude to someone and the only one worthy of gratitude is God is a stretch. It's like the canard (to use Mr. Lewis' word) that says that atheists have no one to express gratitude to at Thanksgiving.
