Getting to the Point: Careful The Tale You Tell -

Why is the Church so obsessed with abortion? Why does the Church talk incessantly about homosexuality? What is this creepy Catholic obsession with sex, sex, sex all the time? Why can’t the Church be concerned about real issues—poverty, for example—instead of always being all about the pelvic issues? Why, huh, why? Is This the Death of the Catholic Church in Ireland? | Daily News | NCRegister.com

At first glance I'd be tempted to believe that this question is 'over the top'; a bit of hyperbole that obscures more than illumines the question of the state of the Church in Ireland. Yet after reading the entire article, I'm not so sure that perhaps it is closer to the truth than I first suspected to be true. If it is the case that the Irish church is moribund, then it should stand as proof that the vivacity of the faith in any country cannot be taken for granted. Seeking the transcendent | Crux

"Here’s my theory: The shrinking number of American Catholics isn’t just about the hierarchy’s anachronistic politics. It’s also about Catholics seeking, and not finding, an experience of the holy and transcendent — of God — in their Church." Click on link to read entire article: Seeking the transcendent | Crux

Something to ponder

Diarmuid Martin: Catholic Church needs reality check. Church needs to ask if it has drifted from the young in wake of marriage vote, says archbishop.

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin, Dublin Ireland Really? Does +Martin actually believe it's the Church that has drifted away? Wow! It isn't the Church that has drifted away. It's been its membership.  The Irish Church is indeed in a world of trouble if its top clerics have such a malformed view as to what is happening to it. How can one hope to fix a problem if they are unable to even identify what has happened in the first place? I've really liked + Diamuid Martin, especially in the manner that he has addressed the Irish sex abuse scandals. But he's certainly off the mark with this issue. As we close in on the end of the school year...

Isn't this one of the signs of the predicted apocalype?

Aesthetic properties aside, the characters in this new ABC network program entitled 'The Real O'Neals' might be an indication that we are fast approaching the predicted end of time and civilization as we know it.  Or it could just be the latest in a long line of failed sitcoms that passes as entertainment on network TV. Either way, I don't think I'll be watching. If it's the former, I'll be really, really busy dealing with bigger issues. If it's the latter, there will no doubt  be   something more enjoyable to occupy my time than simply watching such trash. Pumping out the septic tank for just one example... or having hemroids banded. Just about anything would be an improvement over this garbage imho.  Don't believe me? Watch the trailer and judge for yourself!

Ralph Rowe, convicted of some 60 sex crimes, deserves more prison time: victims - Thunder Bay - CBC News

What? Canada's "most prolific pedophile" was an ANGLICAN priest? I thought the accepted narrative was that pedophilia is caused by celibacy. Anglican priests are not obliged to live celibate lives. Could it be that there is NO causal relationship between priestly celibacy and child sexual abuse after all? If so, then what are all the Catholic haters going to use to castigate RC clergy and Church teaching now that their favorite canard has been demonstrated to be false? I suspect that nothing will change their tune. Folks who parrot this falsehood remind me of a poster my older brother used to have hanging on his bedroom wall:  'My mind's made up. Don't confuse me with the facts.' Ralph Rowe, convicted of some 60 sex crimes, deserves more prison time: victims - Thunder Bay - CBC News

Ottawa considering hate charges against those who boycott Israel - Politics - CBC News

Granted, this is a story from the CBC so it's no doubt slanted to put the Conservatives in a bad light, but I hope it's soon refuted by the government. People of good conscience can disagree on the merits of a boycott, but it's hard to think of such an activity as an expression of 'hate speech'. What would be the alternative? Forcing people and/or organizations to purchase items from Israel to demonstrate that they don't 'hate'? Dumb idea... dumb story... imho. Fear vs. Encouragement

Fear prevents us from doing a lot of things that we want to do , ought to do. Fear divides people against one another. Fear builds walls, invisible psychological walls, between us. Sometimes we need another person to shake us out of our fear, to encourage us, to stir up the boldness that lies within. Click below to read the entire article Fear vs. Encouragement
