Universe, you really let me down: astronomers disappointed after observation doesn't fit model - Technology - News - Catholic Online

I am always interested in science stories and often post some on this blog. But this seems to be to be a somewhat troubling story. Not the conclusions that the astronomers is disturbing, but rather the fact that they could be 'disappointed' with the fact that the universe isn't working the way they wanted it to.

Sounds just a touch arrogant or self-centered don't you think? "Damn universe! Why won't you be the way I want you to be?" I mean, come on fellows! I'm ticked that after finally seeing the winter snows start to melt around here that I woke up to heavy snow falling afresh from the sky. But I'm not disappointed with the fact that in Canada it snows.

But maybe I should cut these guys some slack. After all, if the snow gets to be too much for me I can always jump in my car and drive south to where it's warm. Where can you go if you're ticked with the universe?

  1. But they also said "Science is at its most interesting when prediction and experiment disagree and so although our cosmic landscape is smoother than we thought, this may mean we need to re-think bits of our cosmological theory and such progress is good for science in the long run.' One gets attached to a theory but moves one when the evidence points elsewhere.

    Not so with Leafs fans.

All good things must come to an end

Well, it's been a hell of a ride, laying rubber all over the road for the past decade. But it's time to call it a day and park the Rogue in the garage. Effective today, I am shutting down my blog to focus my attention on other endeavours. My thanks to the more than 2.7 million people who regularly joined me on these sojourns through news stories over the years that dealt with the places with issues of religion and faith intersecting with public affairs. May God bless you with a continuing desire to learn about and help disseminate the issues of faith throughout the public square. Happy trails in your continuing travels! Fr. Tim Moyle, p.p.
