On the one hand it's difficult to see this news story as 'good news', but if it is a sign of Pope Francis moving to deal decisively with the issues of feckless and immoral clerics in the hierarchy of the Church, then it is good news indeed. It could mean that he understands that the greater damage done to the Church through all of the sex abuse clergy scandals has not been wrought by the predators themselves (as horrid and terrible as they have been in themselves) but by the fact that their predations have been enabled and abetted by the Bishops et al who have failed to deal justly and properly with these criminals.
So maybe, just maybe this is indeed a good news story. Let's pray that it turns out that way as I believe that dealing with the issue of the cover-ups MUST BE dealt with if we hope to win back the trust and confidence of Catholics who have abandoned the Church (if not the faith) in the wake of twenty five years of these sordid revelations.
