Do you think that articles like this one actually do the Church any good?
While it's good news that allegations and convictions have dropped, isn't even one case too many? Still I choose to post it here since it at least adds some credence to the claim that the Church is slowly cleaning up its act.
I just hope that we don't re-adopt the attitude that the problem is solved (or doesn't exist as was previously asserted by many in the hierarchy.) Eternal vigilance and justice will always be required to bring the number of such crimes down to zero (which is the only acceptable number we should be aiming for!). Now is not the time to 'take our eye off the ball' just because things are trending in the right direction.

I think articles like this one do a great deal of harm to everyone involved and including the church. Not only because it shows such disrespect for any victims of abuse ,past and present. There are in all likelihood vulnerable children being abused ,,molested and groomed today by pedophile priests who were previously convicted and by pedophile priests who are known to be so by the children that they are preying upon and some other adults who would rather not get involved. What we want is for our children and their parents to be vigilant surrounding this dangerous reality. to expound upon a bias and scanty collection of statistics does nothing to show that the safety of our children is a priority. Blaming others ( media) does a great deal discredit the credibility of the church in even unrelated matters, a lack of humility and it portrays an image not consistent with a genuine desire to rehabilitate.
