Well, it's been a hell of a ride, laying rubber all over the road for the past decade. But it's time to call it a day and park the Rogue in the garage. Effective today, I am shutting down my blog to focus my attention on other endeavours. My thanks to the more than 2.7 million people who regularly joined me on these sojourns through news stories over the years that dealt with the places with issues of religion and faith intersecting with public affairs. Cooperation is something that will not be achieved overnight. It is complicated and we also have 500 years of history to overcome.
ReplyDeletePrejudice and church loyalty are hard to integrate into the 21st century thinking. As one married to a Roman Catholic one has to overcome bigotry and bias almost on a daily basis. One of the difficulties comes from an unexpected wing of Catholicism, and that is the extreme right or fundamentalists who preach extreme loyalty to Catholicism, reminding all who would listen that the Catholic Church is the only way to heaven. Included are such statements as "there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church", or the "fullness of truth exists only in the Catholic Church."
It is complicated and not easy to obtain unity, especially when there is a lack of charity.
