Finally, some actual perspective on the recent 'discovery' of the buried children who died in residential schools. It make clear two essential points that I've been repeating over and over again since the news reports started. (1) That these burials WERE known by Native First Nations, the Churches, and the Federal Government. They were neither secret nor a surprise. And (2) that it is the fault of the Federal Government that the cemeteries were neglected and allowed to grow over because they did not take any steps to preserve or protect these sacred burial grounds. Please read this article and the paper it references written by Dr. Scott Hamilton (entitled 'Where Are The Children Buried') and you will see the truth about these burials, the cause of death for most of the children, and who is responsible for the insult of ignoring and neglecting their places of burial. You will see that while the Church indeed has a great deal to answer for as regards the abuse that too many of the students of the residential schools suffered at the hands of various clergy and religious, it wasn't and isn't the evil enterprise that the Liberal government of Trudeau Jr. and his friends in the media are trying to convince the world we are. The primary responsibility for this recent failure rests on their shoulders, not ours.
Well, it's been a hell of a ride, laying rubber all over the road for the past decade. But it's time to call it a day and park the Rogue in the garage. Effective today, I am shutting down my blog to focus my attention on other endeavours. My thanks to the more than 2.7 million people who regularly joined me on these sojourns through news stories over the years that dealt with the places with issues of religion and faith intersecting with public affairs. May God bless you with a continuing desire to learn about and help disseminate the issues of faith throughout the public square. Happy trails in your continuing travels! Fr. Tim Moyle, p.p.
