I believe that Pope Francis started out trying to bridge the gap between progressives and conservatives within the Church, but he has failed miserably. Now he seems more intent on punishing and maligning conservatives while promoting a liberal agenda that may wreak tremendous damage on the Church if it puts us on the same path that vitiated the mainline Protestant churches when they tried to modernize their beliefs to make them more harmonious and palatable to modern sensibilities over the past 40 years.
