Reflections from the pastoral ministry of an Evangelical Catholic Priest.
More nonesense from a Bishop. In one fell swoop he has tarnished all priests/workers in his diocese as not being trustworthy around children. Some 'workers' in that diocese ought to have him charged with ruining their lives.
ReplyDeleteAnon: While I appreciate your sentiment, I disagree with your opinion. This policy (which I have practiced my entire priesthood) protects both children and the Church. If priests are not in a situation where they are alone with children then they cannot be accused of molesting them, sparing all concerned from dealing with false charges and lawsuits. It's sad that we are in such a situation but it is just a reality of the times we are living in. Times that have been created by too many predator priests abusing children and feckless bishops who have lacked the courage to have them immediately charged by the appropriate civil authorities. In other words, we've done it to ourselves.
