Married ...Amazing how people will believe this one. Married people who abstain are supposedly more holy than normal people, regardless that the Bible does not support this interpretation. The reason for this interpretation I believe is to elevate Mary, and portray her in a way which will provide the most gain for the RCC. She is to be a role model for women.
