Toronto city councillor says Muslim-only subsidized housing is acceptable

This is a REALLY bad idea.

It would be a bad idea no matter if it were Catholic only, or Hindu only, or (pick a religion) only development. Aside from the fact that it is a real life ghettoization of one faith, it is decidedly un-Canadian. We are a pluralistic and multicultural/multifaith nation where we all bump up against fellow citizens of a multitude of beliefs.

I sincerely hope that this councillor is dissuaded from pursuing this idea.

France's burkini ban overturned by highest court

I do not think the state has the right to tell people that they cannot wear clothing that covers their skin. Think of it this way. The law as it is being applied in France essentially says it's OK to be topless on a beach but it's illegal to be there if you are covered up. How can that make sense? It doesn't to me.

I agree with the goal of protecting Christianity's place in society. I just think that this isn't the right tactic because it strengthens 'Big Brother' and this is a greater threat than Islam.

God and Brexit: The latest from George Weigel

Ever since the United Kingdom decided in June to leave the European Union, contending (and sometimes overlapping) explanations have been offered for a vote that stunned the world’s opinion-makers...Together, these amount to what’s often called the EU’s “democracy deficit,” which seems to me real enough.

I’d like to suggest another, perhaps deeper, answer to the question of the EU’s current distress, though: To put it bluntly, the “democracy deficit” is a reflection of Europe’s “God-deficit.”

Looming Texas execution of a man who never killed anyone illustrates urgency of forgiveness - Crux

I like the approach this priest took! It mirrors my own practice. Given we're entering into a phase where we are beginning some expensive, capital repairs to our buildings, I sincerely hope this 'small ball' approach will suffice in raising the hundreds of thousands we are going to need to complete them all!
