Statistics Canada report: For 1st time, Canada has more seniors than children | CTV News

There you have it folks... the fuse on the Canadian demographic bomb has now been lit. Just think, within 15 years there will only be two working taxpayers for every retired person. So get your health care while you can because pretty soon the government is going to only be able to afford to offer its citizens a 'merciful death' instead of the expensive medical procedures we'll need to keep us alive. Isn't it a wonderful thing that we've just made it possible for the government to do this through the legalization of euthanasia? Just think of all the money the government is going to save!! Think I'm being a touch too extreme in my prediction? Just remember that the only thing separating us from this dire fate is a politician's promise not to do it. Pretty thin gruel to bet our life on imho. Statistics Canada report: For 1st time, Canada has more seniors than children | CTV News

Interested in the upcoming Synod on the Family? Then don't miss this opportunity to get some first-person reporting on the event

Dear Friends: Please go to http://www.firstthings.com where you will find the rollout of a new media project, LETTERS FROM THE SYNOD. In summoning last October’s special meeting of the Synod of Bishops and the regular session of the Synod that will begin its work on October 5, Pope Francis called the entire Church to an open, wide-ranging, and honest discussion of the crisis of marriage and the family in the 21st century, and to a Gospel-centered exploration of what the Catholic Church might do to respond to this crisis with greater pastoral impact, thus renewing the vocation of marriage and restoring its luster. LETTERS FROM THE SYNOD—a partnership among First Things, the Catholic Herald in the U.K., and the Catholic Weekly in Sydney—is a response to that call. Please do pass the word about this so that we get the widest possible coverage. Best thanks for your help on this, and so much else. George Weigel

Gay Christians, controversial nun among those set to greet Pope Francis | Fox News

Openly gay Christians, a controversial nun who clashed with the Catholic Church and a transgender woman are reportedly among the invited guests greeting Pope Francis at the White House next week, a move that one Catholic activist calls “an ambush” and “political stunt.” While it is unclear if gay former Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson, gay Catholic blogger Aaron Ledesma, Sister Simone Campbell or biological man Vivian Taylor will have the opportunity to meet the pontiff face to face, the quartet's presence, along with many other guests, is seen by some as a visible nod to factions who would wish to nudge the Church left. “This is definitely out of the ordinary,” said Michael Hichborn, president of the Catholic watchdog Lepanto Institute. “[President Obama is] trying to force the pope into a situation where it seems as if the Church is giving license to homosexuality and socialism.” Click on link below to read entire article: Gay Christians, controversial nun among those set to gre

Science Contra Hubris

"Good scientific training is strenuous and humbling, because science is unforgiving. To spare society from the imposition of subjective pipe dreams, the prudence characteristic of valid scientific thinking needs to permeate the entire intellectual order." Do you ever wonder what the NDP thinks of the Catholic Church? This would seem to be the answer.

Fascinating isn't it? A Conservative candidate gets dropped (and rightly so) for previously mocking disabled people - but an aide to the leader of the NDP castigates and insults Catholics and all that happens is that he apologizes and we're all supposed to be content and believe him when he says he didn't actually believe what he previously wrote. Sigh... A pox on all their houses!!! seems to be the only appropriate response to this election campaign.  Mulcair’s senior aide apologizes for two-year-old tweet telling Pope Benedict to ‘Go f— ‘ himself | National Post

George Weigel sums it up just about perfectly imho!

QUOTATION: Freedom is Based On Truth Freedom must be tethered to moral truth and ordered to human goodness if freedom is not to become self-cannibalizing.  If there is only "my" truth and "your" truth, but nothing that we both recognize as "the truth", then we have no basis on which to settle our differences other than pragmatic accommodation; then, when pragmatic accommodation fails (as it must when the issue is grave enough), either I will impose my power on you or you will impose your power on me. Truth and goodness shape the moral horizon against which the deliberations of free peoples can take place in an orderly and productive way.
